The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It forms the government and defines three parts of government, listing their powers and responsibilities — Congress to make laws, the President to carry them out, and the Supreme Court to explain what they mean. Most importantly, it protects the rights of the people, guaranteeing freedoms such as free speech, freedom of religion, and right to a fair trial, which no government can take away.
